Income Generating Projects

LES is committed to improving livelihoods of its neighboring communities through the creation of income generating projects that are beneficial to all parties. The bio-fuel project has succeeded in opening up several opportunities for community members to earn an alternative source of income.

The project is a labour intensive undertaking, therefore avails employment opportunities to the local community. Depending on the season, the project employs between 100-300 workers in Vipingo and Diani Estates.

Through the implementation of the shamba system project, community members are allowed to plant their food crops in between rows of trees while at the same time tending the young trees. At the end of the year, the members are assured of food security and sale of their surplus food crops results in an alternative source of income.
