Holcim is among the first companies worldwide to have its near and long term CO2 targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative for all scopes, setting the reference for our industry. Walking the talk on our commitment by setting ourselves ambitious near term and long term climate targets that are validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Until 2030, we are accelerating our reduction in CO2 intensity to exceed 20% (compared to our 2018 baseline); among other commitments. 

Holcim is committed to respecting and promoting human rights in our operations and activities, business relationships and in the communities where we work. Respect for human rights is fundamental to our ability to do business across our 2,300 sites and value chain in 60 countries. We clearly and actively communicate our human rights expectations of employees and business partners through our Human Rights and Social Policy.

For many decades Bamburi Cement has been known for its efforts in quarry rehabilitation and conservation through its environmental arm Lafarge Eco Systems (LES). Its prominent examples being Bamburi Haller Park and Bamburi Forest Trails, a former quarry wastelands that are now rich ecosystems of diverse vegetation and wildlife (comprising rescued animals). Bamburi Haller Park is now a great tourist attraction at the Kenyan Coast and is also source of sharing experiences, expertise and knowledge with others through environmental education programs. The conservation agenda is broad. 

 

Bamburi Cement PLC, taping from the expertise and knowledge within Holcim, provides an economical and sustainable solution to waste management challenge in the country. The solution employs globally accepted waste management systems and utilizes Bamburi Cement kilns to dispose waste through co-processing, a superior environment friendly solution to waste management.

Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction

The Foundation conducts the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction – the world’s most significant competition for sustainable design with total prize money per cycle of USD 2 million.

The international competition showcases the important role that architecture, engineering, urban planning, and the building industry have in achieving a more sustainable future. Each competition cycle spans three years, from announcement to completion.
